We Are Involved In A Research Project of Acupuncture and
Massage for Depression During Pregnancy With Stanford University

It has been proven that massage has a profound impact on people suffering from depression. At Diamond Massage & Wellness Center we take wellness very seriously, both physically and mentally and this is why we have arranged with Stanford University to help women diagnosed with clinical depression during their pregnancy. Because depression can lead to complications during or after pregnancy for both the parent and child, it is important to deal with it before it is too late. Many women are reluctant to take antidepressant medications during pregnancy therefore the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, the study is looking at the effects of massage and acupuncture to reduce depressive symptoms instead of pharmaceuticals which have negative side effects.

Diamond Massage & Wellness Center’s director Irene Diamond is one of a few therapists selected in San Francisco to provide the massage therapy protocol for the study.

If you have been diagnosed with clinical depression prior to your pregnancy, please contact Stanford at (650) 723-5886 or strc@med.stanford.edu to see if you might be eligible to participate in this study. Treatment is at no cost to participants with providers available in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, the Peninsula, and the South and East Bay areas.

If you are accepted to be a “guinea-pig”, you may receive a minimum of 8 weeks of massage for up to 10 weeks post delivery. Stanford can accept women within their first 28 gestational weeks.

The study is being conducted now through the year 2007.

We welcome your inquiries for donations and will consider all requests.
